Sociology is the study of human behavior. Generally, sociologists consider themselves different from psychologists, as they are interested in groups, rather than individuals, and anthropologists, as they are interested in their own cultures rather than those of others. But, currently, some of these differences have become exaggerated and the lines have become more blury.
The intention of this blog is to utilize the sociological imagination to examine sports. By understanding sports by examining the larger social institutions and ideas that are in play, we are able to understand them as something larger than simply the winning or losing of a game. Rather than simply describing sports stories, issues and concerns, this blogĀ will use the stories to explain sociological concepts…or use the concepts to describe issues in sports, which ever will keep you reading.
I hope that you will find enjoyment in reading my writings, and the writing of other readers, and I hope that you will contribute to this community of readers, teachers and learners and, of course, sports fans!
